Respite trips 2017

Christmas 2017

All of the young carers really enjoyed their chosen respite activity followed by a christmas party at the gathering hall. The primary age young carers chose to go swimming or watch a film and the high school age young carers chose to go out for a christmas lunch at the Portree hotel. Thank you to all of our volunteers who gave their time to help with the organising, setting up and running of the various activities and party.

November 2017

We took 11 young Carers on a weekend residential respite trip to Edinburgh. We all had a really good time with a fun filled and action packed weekend that included shopping, virtual reality, bubble soccer, ice skating and karting. We also had some great entertainment on the train home! We were so lucky to have dry weather the whole time we were away. A huge thank you to our volunteers and funders for their support, without this such trips would not be possible.

Easter Respites

Young carers had some brilliant respite days out during the Easter Holidays. Landmark was a great hit with the combination of blue skies, interesting walks and brave folk taking to the rides! More young carers enjoyed a horse riding session with Karen and colleagues at the stables while other group had Nerf Wars at Victoria Cottage. We rounded off the week with a group going go karting in Inverness - very nervous moment waiting for the speed results but in the end 2 young carers beat workers "we took them down!!"

October holidays

During the October break the young carers enjoyed a variety of respite activities. They chose either Aros cinema, Horse riding, a boat trip with fishing or Go-karting in Inverness. Thank you to everyone for your support in helping to make it happen.

Summer Respites

The Aros Tha Seo Math Dhuibh - Good For You Project
We were delighted to take some of our primary school age young carers along to Aros for the launch of the photography & art exhibition completed this summer. The prints were available to buy with all proceeds coming back to Skye & Lochalsh Young Carers to help fund similar projects to this in the future. Each of the young carers that took part in the project received a copy of their own print to keep. We also produced a calendar from a selection of the prints chosen by the young carers, that was available for sale and each young carer family received one.

We also held two very successful self-catering residential training and respite programmes at Quiraing Lodge in Staffin. The young carers took part in lots of productive activities mixed in with fun and games which even included bed making, cooking, baking, kite flying, maze walk, temporary tattoos, T-shirt design, and trips to the beach and the dinosaur museum! Thank you to The John Casson Foundation for their much appreciated funding, Columba 1400 for use of the Lodge and to our volunteers - you all helped to make these fantastic breaks possible.
